What is Relative Risk (RR)?

Relative Risk is the ratio of the probability of an event occurring in an exposed group versus a non-exposed group. RR = Risk(Exposed) / Risk(Control).

What does RR = 1 mean?

RR = 1 implies no difference in risk between the two groups. The exposure has no association with the outcome.

RR vs Odds Ratio (OR)?

RR compares probabilities. OR compares odds. OR is often used in case-control studies where incidence is unknown, while RR is preferred for cohort studies.

How to interpret RR > 1?

RR > 1 suggests the exposure increases the risk of the outcome (Risk Factor). RR < 1 suggests the exposure decreases the risk (Protective Factor).
