How It Works

This calculator uses the SunCalc library, which implements astronomical algorithms for solar position calculations. It computes the sun's position as a function of latitude, longitude, and date, then derives the exact moments when the sun crosses key angular thresholds (horizon, -6°, -12°, -18°).

Solar Angles

Sunrise/Sunset: sun at 0° altitude

Civil twilight: −6° altitude

Nautical twilight: −12°

Astronomical twilight: −18°
