How It Works

We divide the deck span by joist spacing to find the framing count, and surface area by board width for decking needs.

Joists = Ceil(Width / Spacing) + 1

Decking Rows = Ceil(Depth / (BoardWidth + Gap))

Linear Ft = Rows × Width × 1.05 (Waste)

Framing Rules

  • Standard Joist Spacing: 16" OC.
  • Diagonal Decking: Requires 12" OC spacing.
  • Use pressure-treated lumber for ground contact.
